Loading & combining presentations

It's easy to get your files together! We're going to use FTP (file transfer protocol) with Netscape to load your files onto the Girls on Track computers!

Naming Files

Name your files with your team number, the problem you're presenting, and which presenter you are (1,2,3, etc).

Use the following abbreviations for your presentations:

Suppose your team is team 5, you're working on the community problems brainstorm, and you're going to be the 2nd presenter in your presentation. Name your file team5-comm-p2

Do not put any spaces or capital letters in the filename.

Your Team Account

Each team has an account on ontrack.ncsu.edu. Click on the link below to open your account. You will be asked for a password, which will be given to all the teams. The links below are:

ftp://team#@ontrack.ncsu.edu/home/ms/2001/team#/got_html/

Team 1 Team 3 Team 5 Team 9 Team 10

Team 2 Team 4 Team 6 Team 7 Team 8 Team 11

Upload files

There is a directory in your team account for each investigation we will do: Community, Population, Salary, Trash, and Traffic. Click on the directory for your current investigation. This is where we'll place our presentations.

Uploading files means taking files from your computer and putting them on the web:

Putting your presentation together

Now that all of your files are on your team account, you can combine them to make a great presentation! Note: When you do this, all of your slides will have the same slide design as the first slide in your presentation.

  1. In the Netscape browser, click on the presentation with the first (title) part of your presentation. PowerPoint will start with that presentation.
  2. There is a bar at the bottom of your screen called the Task Bar. On the task bar, you should see buttons for your Netscape Browser and for PowerPoint. Click on the Netscape button to bring your browser to the front.
  3. Open the next part of your presentation in PowerPoint using steps 1 & 2 above.
  4. Now, click on the PowerPoint button on the task bar to bring it to the front. Click on Window to get a list of all the presentations open in PowerPoint. Select your first section, which should be called something like team5-comm-p1.
  5. View this presentation in the Slide Sorter view by clicking on the Slide Sorter button at the lower left of the screen, or by selecting View and Slide Sorter from the menu.
  6. From the Window option, select your second presentation section, and get it into the Slide Sorter view as in the previous step. Use the mouse to select all the slides in this view, and Copy them to the clipboard. To copy slides, select them and click on Copy on the Edit menu.
  7. From the Window menu, select p1 of your presentation. Click in the white space after your slides, and Paste your new slides in. Paste can be found on the Edit menu.
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for all your slides, pasting pages from each section into the first section (e.g. team5-comm-p1).
  9. When all the slides are pasted into your first section, select File and Save As. Save the file ON A DISK with no page extension, e.g. team5-comm.
  10. Use the procedure above to upload the new presentation into your team folder on the web. If you have named your presentation correctly, it will be linked to the computer for presenting. Now you're ready to present!

Have fun!!!
